Steps to Take After a Highway Injury in Kendall County, TX
What you do in the first hours after a highway injury can affect much of what comes later. Texas law requires drivers to stop, exchange insurance and contact information, and help anyone who needs medical attention. It is crucial to call 911 to get an official report started. Photos of the vehicles, the road and any visible injuries can also help down the line.
Get medical treatment quickly, even if the pain seems minor at first. Whiplash, concussions and internal injuries may not show up for hours or even days. If there is a gap between the event and your first doctor's visit, insurers usually argue that something else caused the injury. Keep every record, bill and receipt, and follow the treatment plan your doctor gives you.
Insurance calls usually come soon after. Many Texas policies include personal injury protection, which can pay medical bills and lost wages no matter who was at fault, unless the policyholder rejected it in writing.
The other driver's insurer may ask for a recorded statement early on. In Texas, your share of fault can reduce what you recover or block it completely, so a casual comment can later be used to shift blame. A car accident lawyer can handle those conversations, gather the evidence and keep the claim inside the state's two-year filing deadline.
