Washington County, TX (October 9, 2026) – Three people died and three others were flown to a hospital with suspected serious injuries after a head-on collision on State Highway 105 southwest of Navasota on Thursday evening, October 8.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said that around 5:30 p.m., a Chevrolet Impala was heading west on SH 105. A Chevrolet Equinox heading east started to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone and hit the Impala head-on.
The Impala's driver and its passenger died. The Equinox driver and two passengers were taken by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. A backseat passenger from the same vehicle died.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office said the wreck happened at the Washington-Grimes County line. The Department of Transportation is investigating.
Our thoughts are with the families of those who died and with the three people hurt, and we wish them a full recovery.
Who Can File a Wrongful Death Claim Under Texas Law in Washington County, TX?
Texas limits who may bring a wrongful death claim. The surviving spouse, children, and parents of the person who died may file, and the claim is brought for the benefit of all of them. If none of them files within three months of the death, the executor or administrator of the estate must file unless the family asks otherwise.
The recovery can be broad. Texas allows damages for lost financial support, loss of companionship and society, mental anguish, and loss of inheritance.
The estate may also bring a separate survival claim for the person's pain and suffering and medical and funeral costs before death. In these cases, a wrongful death lawyer can help a family decide who should file and which losses belong to each claim.
Texas generally allows two years from the date of death to file, but evidence such as camera footage and vehicle data can disappear much sooner, which is why it is crucial to act promptly.
