What Should I Do If I Was Hurt in a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Denton, TX?
If you were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash in Denton, you should seek medical care and get the names and insurance details of every driver involved. A medical exam can help identify injuries that may not appear right away. You will also need the drivers' information when dealing with insurance claims.
Once police finish their work, you can request a copy of the Texas crash report. It usually lists the drivers and vehicles involved. The report may also include insurance details and information the officer collected at the scene. Check that your name and other details are correct.
In Texas, personal injury protection (PIP) is included in auto insurance policies unless you reject it in writing. If you have this coverage, it can help pay medical bills and certain other expenses soon after a crash, even if you were responsible.
Depending on your injuries, you may be able to recover compensation for hospital bills, lost income, and pain and suffering. If you need more medical care, you may also be able to include future treatment costs. Your claim amount depends on your injuries and how the crash has affected your finances.
Under Texas law, you generally have two years to file a personal injury lawsuit. This deadline is different from the time it takes to settle an insurance claim. If you miss it, you may lose your chance to bring the case to court. Keep the deadline in mind while gathering your records.
When insurance companies disagree about who was responsible, a car accident lawyer can look at each driver's role, compare the available policies, and add up your losses. An attorney can also coordinate the different claims for you.
