Fort Worth, TX (October 27, 2026) – Two people were seriously injured after an SUV overturned in a crash involving an allegedly intoxicated driver on Interstate 35W near Altamesa Boulevard in Fort Worth early Sunday morning, October 26.
According to Fort Worth police, the suspect's vehicle struck the SUV from behind as both vehicles traveled southbound on I-35W, just past Interstate 20, shortly before 1:30 a.m. The collision caused both vehicles to veer toward a wall, and the SUV overturned, trapping its two occupants inside.
Other motorists stopped to help the trapped occupants. One passenger suffered a serious head injury, lost consciousness, and was later released from the hospital. The second occupant remained in critical condition with a reported broken leg.
Police stated that the driver accused of causing the crash attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended after witnesses provided descriptions. The driver was reportedly suspected of driving while intoxicated. Further details about potential charges and the second occupant's recovery were not available.
Officials continue to investigate what led to the collision.
We hope everyone involved in the crash is able to make a full and lasting recovery.
What Legal Options May Be Available After a Suspected DUI Crash in Fort Worth, TX?
People injured in a crash involving a suspected impaired driver may be eligible to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, vehicle damage, and other losses.
Medical costs can include emergency treatment, hospital stays, diagnostic testing, surgery, medication, rehabilitation, and follow-up appointments. For someone with a serious head injury or a broken leg, treatment may continue long after the initial hospital visit. Medical records, bills, and treatment recommendations can help document both current expenses and anticipated future care.
An injury claim may also include lost wages when someone cannot work during recovery. Pay statements, employer records, and documentation of missed work may help establish these losses. If an injury causes lasting limitations or affects a person's future earning ability, those potential financial losses may also be considered. Compensation for pain and suffering may be available in qualifying cases.
Evidence can be especially relevant when alcohol impairment is suspected. Police reports, witness statements, available video footage, vehicle damage, and records related to the driver's alleged impairment may help establish how the crash occurred. A suspected DUI does not automatically determine the outcome of a civil claim, so liability and damages must be evaluated based on the available evidence.
Texas law may allow injured people to seek damages from a driver whose negligence caused a crash. Texas generally follows a modified comparative responsibility rule, meaning a person's recovery may be reduced by their share of fault and may be barred if their responsibility exceeds 50%.
