Who May Be Liable for Injuries Caused by a Dog Bite in Harris County, TX?

People injured in a dog attack in Harris County may be able to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other losses. Whether a dog owner or another party can be held liable depends on the facts of the attack, the available evidence, and applicable Texas law.

Texas does not automatically hold every dog owner liable simply because their dog bites someone. Liability may depend on factors such as whether the owner knew the dog had previously shown dangerous behavior, whether the owner acted negligently, and whether local rules or other legal duties were violated. The circumstances of each case matter when assessing responsibility.

Medical documentation can help establish the nature and extent of a bite injury. Records from medical evaluations, treatment notes, prescriptions, and bills may support a claim for the costs of care. Dog bites can sometimes require follow-up treatment, wound care, or additional medical attention, depending on the injuries. Any future treatment needs may also be relevant when assessing potential losses.

Evidence gathered after an attack can help clarify what happened. Photographs of visible injuries, the location where the bites occurred, witness contact information, and records of communications with the dog's owner may all be useful. Information about the dog's prior behavior, if available, may also be relevant. Keeping copies of reports and medical records can help preserve a clear account of the event.

People affected by a dog bite should keep records of medical expenses, follow treatment recommendations, and be mindful of deadlines that may apply to a claim.
