Livingston, TX (October 4, 2026) – A Polk County sheriff’s deputy and another driver were injured in a head-on collision in Livingston on Saturday, October 3. The wreck happened around 9 a.m. in the 6900 block of U.S. Highway 190 West.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was traveling east during routine patrol when a westbound car crossed into the eastbound lane. The deputy swerved right, but the car struck the driver’s side of the patrol vehicle before leaving the roadway and stopping in a ditch.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported that the deputy got out and checked on the other driver. Both men sustained minor injuries and were taken to a Livingston hospital for evaluation and treatment. The other driver was later issued citations related to the crash.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is working to determine what led to the collision.
We wish both injured men a full and steady recovery.
How Is Fault Determined After a Head-On Crash in Livingston, TX?
Fault after a head-on crash in Livingston is determined by which driver left their lane or crossed into oncoming traffic, based on how the crash unfolded.
In most head-on crashes, police reports, roadway photos, vehicle damage, and witness accounts can help show where each vehicle was before the collision and how the vehicles came together.
Depending on your coverage, PIP may help pay for treatment if your policy includes it. Health insurance may also cover medical care, depending on the terms of the policy.
Along with medical costs, you may recover compensation for lost income, vehicle damage, and pain and suffering. The amount available depends on the losses caused by the collision and the circumstances of the claim.
If you share some of the blame, your recovery is reduced by your percentage of fault. You generally cannot recover damages if you are found more than 50% responsible for the crash.
Under Texas law, the general deadline to file a personal injury lawsuit is two years from the date of the crash. Certain circumstances may change how that deadline applies, so it is important to understand the time limit that applies to your case.
During the claims process, a car accident lawyer can gather roadway evidence, photographs, and medical records to show how the collision occurred. An attorney can also explain how Texas fault rules may affect your claim.
