How Accident Reconstruction Works for Drivers in Venus, TX

When drivers tell different stories about what happened, reconstruction turns physical evidence into measurable facts. A reconstructionist studies tire marks, gouges in the pavement, where vehicles came to rest, and the pattern of damage on each one. Using physics, they can estimate speed, braking, and the angle at which the vehicles met.

Many newer vehicles also carry an event data recorder, which can log speed, braking, and steering input in the seconds before a hard stop or a hit. Texas law generally treats that data as belonging to the vehicle's owner, so retrieving it usually takes the owner's consent or a court order. Vehicles can be repaired, sold, or sent to salvage yards, and the data may be lost if no one moves quickly to preserve it.

Reconstruction findings tend to shape how fault is divided, because Texas uses a proportionate responsibility system in which a person found more than 50 percent responsible generally cannot recover damages. A car accident lawyer can help decide whether an outside reconstructionist should be consulted, ask that vehicles and data be preserved, and weigh the findings against Texas's general two-year filing deadline.

Reconstruction can turn a disputed account into something more concrete, but it depends on evidence that may not stay available for long.
