San Antonio, TX (October 16, 2026) – A 69-year-old man died Thursday, October 15, after a three-vehicle wreck on the city's west side. San Antonio police said the wreck happened around 9 p.m. at South General McMullen Drive and Wallace Street.

Authorities said a pickup truck and a Cadillac collided in the intersection. The Cadillac kept moving forward and struck an SUV in a turning lane. Everyone involved was taken to the hospital, where the pickup driver was pronounced dead.

The Cadillac driver, a man in his 30s, is being investigated for possible intoxication. Police did not provide an update on the health of the other people involved.

Police are still working to piece together what led up to the crash.

Our condolences go out to the man's family and friends.

Damages Available in Wrongful Death Claims in San Antonio, TX

Texas law allows certain family members to seek several categories of damages in a wrongful death claim. Pecuniary loss covers the financial support, services, advice, and counsel the deceased person would likely have provided. Other categories include loss of companionship and society, mental anguish, and loss of inheritance, which refers to what the person would likely have left to the family.

Putting a dollar figure on these losses usually takes documentation. Pay stubs, tax returns, and employment records can help show lost earnings and benefits, while the person's age, health, and work history may inform projections of future income.

Companionship and mental anguish are harder to measure, so testimony from family members typically matters. Texas also allows exemplary damages when gross negligence is proven, though state law limits how large those awards can be.

It is important to understand Texas applies proportionate responsibility, which can reduce an award or bar recovery when the deceased person is found more than 50 percent responsible, though it is all depending on the facts.

Funeral and medical expenses are generally pursued through a separate survival claim brought by the estate, and a wrongful death lawyer can help sort out which losses belong to which claim.
