What Legal Options Are Available After a Fatal Crash in Johnson City, TX?
When a crash results in a death, surviving family members and injured drivers may face unexpected medical bills, lost income, and other financial hardships.
Under Texas law, families may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim if a person’s death resulted from another party’s wrongful act, neglect, carelessness, unskillfulness, or default.
Eligible claimants may include a surviving spouse, children, and parents. Depending on the circumstances, compensation may cover lost financial support, loss of companionship, mental anguish, and other legally recognized damages. A separate survival claim may also be available to the deceased person’s estate.
Evidence can be important when evaluating a potential claim. Relevant records may include police reports, witness statements, photographs, vehicle damage documentation, medical records, and any available video footage. Keeping receipts and records of missed work and treatment can also help document the financial effects of an injury.
Texas generally imposes a two-year statute of limitations on wrongful death and personal injury lawsuits, although exceptions may apply. Because deadlines and legal requirements can vary, families and injured people should consider seeking legal advice promptly. They should also be cautious about signing settlement agreements or accepting payments before understanding the full scope of their losses.
