Why Should I See a Doctor After a Car Accident in El Paso, TX?
You should see a doctor after a car accident in El Paso because a prompt medical evaluation can protect your health and create a record of when your injuries were first treated.
In many cases, some injuries do not cause noticeable symptoms right away. Soft tissue injuries, concussions, and other head injuries may become more apparent hours or even days after a collision.
Depending on your coverage, personal injury protection, if your policy includes it, or health insurance may help pay for the medical visit while your claim remains open.
Along with medical costs, you may be able to recover compensation for lost income, pain and suffering, and other losses caused by your injuries. The amount available depends on how the crash has affected your health, work, and daily life.
If you share some of the blame, your compensation may be reduced by your percentage of fault. Under Texas rules, you generally cannot recover compensation if you are found to be more than 50% responsible for the crash.
Under Texas law, the general deadline to file a personal injury lawsuit is two years from the date of the crash. Missing that deadline may prevent you from pursuing compensation through the courts.
As your treatment continues, a car accident lawyer can organize your medical records and document the financial effect of your injuries. An attorney can also evaluate whether a settlement offer accounts for the treatment and other losses you may face going forward.
