The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Common Liability Questions After a Residential Fire in Collinsville, TX

Residential fires tend to raise a hard question once the flames are out: what actually started it? The answer can point to more than one party, such as an appliance maker, a contractor who did electrical work, a landlord or a utility. Texas law can allow a claim against anyone whose negligence or defective product contributed to the harm, with fault divided among those found responsible.

For fire victims, it is important to note that personal injury claims generally carry a two-year filing deadline, and Texas also sets a 15-year statute of repose that can bar certain product claims measured from the date of sale, subject to exceptions. Those timelines can matter when a space heater, charger or older appliance becomes part of the discussion.

Evidence can disappear quickly after a fire, since debris is cleared and repairs often begin soon after. Homes in Collinsville vary widely in age, and older wiring or appliances can raise questions about who installed, serviced or manufactured them. A personal injury lawyer can help sort out which parties may be involved, ask that damaged items be kept for testing, and explain how shared fault under Texas proportionate responsibility rules may shape a claim.
