Manor, TX (October 3, 2026) – One person died in a three-vehicle wreck on eastbound U.S. Highway 290 in Manor on Friday, October 2. The crash happened at about 10 p.m. west of Gregg Manor Road.

According to the Manor Police Department, a vehicle traveling east approached stopped traffic and struck the rear of another vehicle. That vehicle was pushed into a third vehicle.

First responders performed CPR on one driver, who was later pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the others involved were not injured.

All eastbound lanes of U.S. 290 between Threshold Lane and Gregg Manor Road were closed for about three and a half hours while crews worked.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the driver who lost their life.

How Long Do Families Have to File a Wrongful Death Claim in Manor, TX?

In Manor and throughout Texas, families generally have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. The filing period begins on that date.

However, a shorter deadline may apply if a government agency may be responsible. In that case, the family may have to send written notice within six months explaining what happened, when and where it occurred, and the harm claimed.

In most cases, the surviving spouse, children, or parents may file the claim. If none of them does so within three months, the estate’s representative may be able to file instead.

Through a wrongful death claim, families may seek compensation for financial and personal losses caused by the death. These may include lost support, loss of companionship, mental anguish, funeral expenses, and other qualifying damages.

The estate may also bring a separate survival claim for losses the person had before death. This can include medical expenses and other damages the person could have recovered if they had lived.

When more than one relative qualifies, each person’s compensation is based on their own loss. This means the amounts awarded do not have to be equal.

As the claim moves forward, a wrongful death lawyer can explain who may file and how much time the family has to act. A lawyer can also gather records, deal with insurers, and prepare and file the case before the filing period ends.
