What Should I Do if My Child Was Injured in a Pedestrian Crash in Laredo, TX?

If your child was injured in a pedestrian crash in Laredo, you should get them medical care right away, report the crash to police, and keep any information you have about the driver and vehicle. These steps can help document what happened and protect your child’s rights.

Even if your child seems fine at first, headaches, dizziness, or new pain can develop later. Let your child’s doctor know if you notice changes in their sleep, movement, or behavior, even if those changes seem small.

As your child recovers, keep medical records, receipts, and notes about missed school, activities, and follow-up appointments. Save photos and contact details for people who saw the crash. Keep these items together so they’re easy to find.

When medical bills begin arriving, health insurance or personal injury protection coverage, if available, may help pay some costs while a claim is being reviewed. What your family can use depends on the coverage and terms of your insurance policies.

Depending on your child’s injuries, a claim may include medical expenses, future treatment, and pain and suffering under Texas law. You may also be able to seek expenses you’ve paid as a parent through a separate claim.

Under Texas law, personal injury lawsuits have a two-year deadline, but the rules may be different for a child’s own claim. Some settlements involving children also need court approval. Getting legal advice can help you understand the deadlines that apply.

If an insurer offers less than your child’s injuries may be worth, a pedestrian accident lawyer can make sure your child’s future medical needs are included in the claim. An attorney can also handle the court approval process for the settlement.
