How Is a T-Bone Crash Treated Under Texas Law?
A T-bone crash, also called a side-impact or broadside collision, happens when the front of one vehicle strikes the side of another, typically at an intersection.
These crashes frequently raise questions about right-of-way, since Texas law generally requires drivers to yield when a traffic signal or stop sign indicates they don't have priority to proceed.
Determining fault in a T-bone crash tends to come down to who had the right-of-way at the moment of impact.
To determine this, investigators focus on traffic signal timing, witness accounts, and any available intersection camera footage can all play a role in reconstructing what happened.
Texas follows a modified comparative negligence rule, in which a person can still recover damages as long as they're found less than 51% responsible. Once the fault is determined, the recovery of each party is reduced by their own share of fault.
Right-of-way disputes usually hinge on timing and visibility, gathering evidence quickly can matter a great deal. In these cases, a car accident lawyer can help track down traffic camera footage, review signal timing, and speak with witnesses before that information becomes harder to access.
