Van Zandt County, TX (September 14, 2026) – One person was seriously injured after a diesel tanker crashed with a pickup truck and car on Sunday, September 13, on Highway 64 in Van Zandt County.
The crash occurred about one-quarter mile west of FM 314. A tanker carrying approximately 7,000 gallons of diesel was traveling west when it struck a pickup near the exit of a convenience store and rolled onto its side.
The tanker then struck a car traveling east on Hwy 64 before coming to rest partly in the eastbound lane and partly in a ditch. One patient was trapped and later freed with help from emergency crews and bystanders.
The tanker leaked fuel from multiple trailer compartments into the roadway and ditch. Emergency crews used foam streams to reduce the hazard, while a medical helicopter was called to the location.
One patient was flown to a hospital in serious condition. Two others were treated and released at the location, while a hazardous-materials team began removing the fuel from the tanker before it could be uprighted and cleared.
Officials continue to investigate what led to the collision.
