Dayton, TX (October 17, 2026) – A 14-year-old boy was critically injured in a hit-and-run near eastbound U.S. Highway 90 and Stilson Road in Dayton early Friday morning, October 16. The crash happened between 6:15 and 6:30 a.m.

The driver struck the boy and left without stopping to help, according to the Dayton Police Department. The boy was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital, where he was being treated for his injuries.

A 70-year-old Dayton Independent School District bus driver was arrested in connection with the crash. Police had not confirmed whether he was driving a school bus at the time or disclosed the charges against him.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

We wish the injured boy a full and steady recovery.

What Should I Do If My Child Was Hurt in a Hit-and-Run Crash in Dayton, TX?

If your child was injured in a hit-and-run crash in Dayton, ensure they get medical care immediately, report the crash to police, preserve any available evidence, and notify your insurance company. These steps can help protect your child and support an injury claim.

After your child receives medical care, watch for changes in their symptoms or behavior, such as worsening pain, headaches, dizziness, or unusual tiredness. If you notice anything concerning, contact their doctor to make sure they receive the care they need.

If the driver cannot be identified or has no insurance, uninsured motorist coverage may help cover your child’s injuries. Whether this coverage applies depends on the insurance policy, your child’s eligibility, and the circumstances of the crash.

Depending on the severity of your child’s injuries, compensation may cover medical bills, future treatment, rehabilitation, pain and suffering, and other losses. If your child needs ongoing care, those future expenses may also be included in a claim.

In Texas, most personal injury lawsuits must be filed within two years. However, this deadline is generally paused for injured children until they turn 18. Claims brought by parents may have earlier deadlines, so it is important to understand which rules apply.

Because claims involving injured children may have special legal requirements, a pedestrian accident lawyer can explain which rules apply to your child’s case. An attorney can also communicate with insurance companies and handle the paperwork while you focus on your child’s recovery.
