How Do Insurance Claims Work When a Car Hits a Home in Killeen, TX?

When a car crashes into a home in Killeen, the driver's auto liability insurance may cover property damage and injuries if the driver is responsible. Your homeowners insurance may also cover damage to your house, depending on your policy.

If the driver is responsible for the crash, their auto liability insurance may pay to repair your home and replace damaged belongings. However, the amount available depends on the driver's property damage coverage limits.

When a vehicle damages your home, your homeowners insurance may cover repairs to walls, windows, and other damaged parts of the house. You may have to pay a deductible, but your insurer could later seek repayment from the responsible driver's insurer.

If you were injured inside your home, you may be able to recover medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other qualifying losses from the responsible driver. Your injury claim is separate from your property damage claim.

If the driver's insurance cannot cover all your losses, other insurance policies or a claim against the responsible driver may be worth considering. Whether you can recover additional costs depends on the available coverage and who is legally responsible.

When insurance companies disagree about who should pay, a car accident lawyer can review the available policies and address disputes involving medical expenses or property damage. An attorney can also communicate with insurers and help you understand your legal options.
