Whitesboro, TX (October 22, 2026) – Three people were critically injured Tuesday, October 20, after an RV hit an 18-wheeler just east of Whitesboro on Highway 82.

According to initial reports from Whitesboro Fire, the RV struck the semi-truck and burst into flames in front of the Lucky Stop truck stop.

Five people were involved in the collision. Two were taken to Texoma Medical Center in Denison, and one was taken to Dallas. A young girl among the five escaped unharmed.

The investigation remains ongoing.

We are thinking of everyone affected as they continue to recover.

What Federal Rules Apply to 18-Wheeler Drivers in Whitesboro, TX?

Commercial truck drivers and carriers must follow federal motor carrier safety rules that limit driving hours, require vehicle inspections, and mandate records such as driver logs and maintenance reports.

Texas applies many of the same requirements to carriers that stay within the state. Those records can help show whether a truck was operated and maintained as required.

Federal hours-of-service rules generally cap a driver's daily driving time at 11 hours after a 10-hour break, and many trucks record that time electronically.

Carriers must also keep driver qualification files, inspection reports, and maintenance records. Interstate for-hire carriers hauling general freight face a federal minimum of $750,000 in liability coverage, and carriers often hold more.

Freight moves through Whitesboro and Grayson County on busy routes such as US-377, and a single trip can involve a driver, a motor carrier, a trailer owner, and a maintenance contractor.

Records held by those companies can be revised or discarded under routine retention schedules unless someone requests that they be kept. An 18-wheeler accident lawyer can help send preservation letters to the companies, review the logs and inspection files, and evaluate which parties may be liable.
