Bremond, TX (September 24, 2026) – On Thursday, September 24, two people were hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 6 in front of the Hammond store in Bremond. Initial reports say the driver lost control, and the vehicle caught fire.
Emergency units treated two people at the scene. One was taken to a hospital by ambulance, while the other was airlifted in critical condition. The Bremond Volunteer Fire Department led the response and worked to put out the flames.
Investigators continue to look into what led to the crash.
We are thinking of both of them as they receive treatment.
Can a Passenger File a Claim After a Texas Car Crash?
A passenger hurt in a crash generally has the same right to seek compensation as any other injured person, and that right does not depend on which vehicle they were riding in.
Texas law allows an injured passenger to bring a claim against a negligent driver, whether that driver was operating the vehicle the passenger rode in or a separate vehicle involved in the same crash. A passenger is rarely at fault for how a vehicle is driven, which can simplify part of the process compared to a claim between two drivers.
Texas follows a modified comparative negligence rule, and a passenger's own share of fault is almost always zero or close to it. Under this rule, a person found more than 50 percent responsible cannot recover damages.
A passenger's recovery is reduced only by whatever percentage of fault, if any, applies to them personally. Passengers typically bear little responsibility for a crash, so this rule works in their favor more often than it complicates their case.
A practical wrinkle comes up when the passenger's claim is against the driver of the vehicle they were riding in, especially if that driver is a friend or family member. Comfort with filing feels different in that situation, but the claim is generally directed at the driver's insurance policy rather than the driver personally.
Texas requires most drivers to carry liability coverage for exactly this kind of situation. A car accident lawyer can help a passenger sort out which policies apply, especially when more than one vehicle or driver may share responsibility.
