The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

We extend our condolences to the families and loved ones of the two men who lost their lives.

What Legal Rights May Apply After a Fatal Crash in Hidalgo County, TX?

Losing a family member in a fatal crash in Hidalgo County can create significant emotional and financial challenges. Depending on the circumstances, surviving family members may have legal rights related to the death and the losses that followed. Understanding those potential rights can help families determine what information should be preserved and what steps may be appropriate.

The first part of a legal review may involve determining how the crash occurred and what evidence may support a potential claim. This could include photographs, vehicle damage, traffic signals, witness accounts, roadway conditions, and other records related to the collision. Preserving these details can provide a clearer record of what happened and may help address questions about responsibility.

Along with documenting the circumstances of the crash, families may need to keep records of the expenses resulting from their loved one's death. Funeral and burial costs can create immediate financial concerns, while other receipts, invoices, and financial records may help document additional losses connected to the death. Keeping these documents organized can provide a clearer picture of the financial impact on the family.

Beyond these immediate expenses, the loss of a family member can also affect the household's future financial stability. Depending on the circumstances, surviving family members may have claims involving lost wages, benefits, or other financial support the deceased would have provided. Employment records, pay information, and related documents may help establish these losses.

As families review their financial losses, insurance coverage may also need to be considered. A wrongful death lawyer can examine applicable policies, correspondence with insurers, and other available information to explain what coverage or claims may be available based on the circumstances. Preserving communications with insurance companies can also help maintain a record of the claims process.

Because important evidence can become more difficult to obtain over time, it should be preserved as early as possible. Witness information, photographs, vehicle records, and available video footage may become harder to locate or access as time passes.

With the evidence and records gathered, legal guidance may be particularly helpful when questions remain about responsibility for the crash. A lawyer can review the available facts, consider the applicable insurance issues, and explain what legal options may be available to the family without assuming a particular outcome.
