On Thursday, September 11, authorities announced a 9-year-old girl had died following a two-vehicle collision on the I-35 service road in Southeast Austin.
Austin Police said the collision happened around 7:41 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, at the intersection of the South I-35 northbound service road and the East State Highway 71 westbound service road.
Officers said a Jeep Compass carrying a driver and two child passengers was traveling north when it collided with a Tesla Cybertruck traveling west. Both children from the Jeep were taken to a hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead. The second child remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The drivers of both vehicles were also taken to hospitals for treatment. Police said both are cooperating with the ongoing review and that neither showed signs of intoxication at the time of the crash.
Investigators have not yet said what led the vehicles to collide, and they continue to review the wreck.
