Houston, TX (November 4, 2026) – A 45-year-old woman was killed in a crash at 150 Southwest Freeway (U.S. 59) in Houston at about 5 a.m. on Sunday, November 1.

According to the Houston Police Department, a blue Dodge Ram 1500 lost a tire and pulled over to the side of the freeway. The woman, a passenger in the Dodge, was standing in front of the truck when a silver Subaru Outback hit the Dodge from behind. The impact pushed the Dodge forward and pinned her between the truck and the concrete barrier.

Houston Fire Department paramedics took her to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The 69-year-old driver of the Subaru showed no signs of intoxication and was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division continues to investigate the crash.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life.

What Compensation Can Families Recover After a Fatal Crash in Houston, TX?

After a fatal crash in Houston, families may qualify for compensation for lost ongoing financial support, companionship, care, mental anguish, lost inheritance, and funeral costs. The specific losses depend on your family's circumstances.

In Texas, a wrongful death claim can be brought by the surviving spouse, children, or parents of the person who died. They can file together, or an eligible family member may start the claim.

Beyond what the family lost, the estate may also have a survival claim for what your loved one experienced before passing. This can include medical expenses and pain. Recovery from this claim belongs to the estate.

In rare cases, Texas courts may award exemplary damages when clear and convincing evidence establishes gross negligence. These damages punish especially serious misconduct rather than repay losses, and Texas law generally limits their amount.

Under Texas law, families generally still have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Missing the filing deadline may prevent a family from bringing the claim.

As the claim moves forward, a wrongful death lawyer can identify every loss your family has suffered. An attorney can also gather the records that show how the loss has affected your family, both financially and personally.
