How Does Uninsured Motorist Coverage Help After a Hit-and-Run in San Antonio, TX?
Uninsured motorist coverage can help pay for your losses after a hit-and-run in San Antonio. It may cover medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering if the driver responsible cannot be identified.
Under Texas law, uninsured motorist coverage for a hit-and-run generally requires physical contact between the other vehicle and you or your car. If another driver forces you off the road without hitting your vehicle, this coverage may not apply.
To document what happened, call the police right away and let your insurance company know as soon as you can. A police report can help confirm that the crash occurred and that the other driver left without stopping to share their information.
Even though it's your own policy, your insurance company may still doubt your injuries or offer less than your claim is worth. Hold on to your medical records, repair estimates, and proof of missed work to back up your claim.
In some cases, police may later track down the driver who fled. If that happens, you may also be able to file a claim directly against that driver or their insurance company for the losses the crash left you with.
If your insurer denies your uninsured motorist claim or offers less than it is worth, a car accident lawyer can gather the records needed to show what you've lost. An attorney can also negotiate with the insurance company so you aren't left handling the claim alone.
