North Loop Drive was closed between Barnhart Drive and Sunset Valley Avenue following the crash.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
We extend our condolences to the woman's family and loved ones and wish those injured a full recovery.
What Compensation Can Families Recover After a Fatal Crash in Socorro, TX?
After a fatal crash in Socorro, families may be able to recover compensation for funeral and burial costs, lost income and financial support, and the loss of their loved one's companionship and care.
Under Texas law, a wrongful death claim can be filed by the person's spouse, children, or parents, either together or separately. If none files within three months, the estate's representative may file unless the family requests otherwise.
Beyond what your family has lost, the estate may also seek payment for medical expenses incurred before your loved one's death and any pain they experienced. This is known as a survival claim.
In some cases, families may also seek exemplary damages if the death resulted from gross negligence or a willful act, such as drunk driving. These damages punish serious wrongdoing, require clear and convincing proof, and are generally capped.
In most cases, you have two years from the date of your loved one's death to file a wrongful death lawsuit in Texas. If you miss this deadline, your family may lose the right to seek compensation in court.
If an insurer offers less than your family's losses may be worth, a wrongful death lawyer can review your claim and negotiate on your behalf. An attorney can also help ensure your claim is filed before the deadline.
